Understanding Activated Carbon Media Changes

Environmental engineering concept illustration

Use a planned monitoring approach to decide when adsorption media needs attention.

A monitoring plan should establish which observations indicate loading or breakthrough for the specific duty. Pressure drop is useful for understanding resistance through the bed, but does not by itself show the remaining adsorption capacity.

When a media change is planned, the work procedure should address isolation, handling and the condition of the spent material. Waste classification and disposal routes depend on what has been captured and on local requirements.

Keeping operating records supports later review of the service interval. The aim is to make media management a defined maintenance activity supported by the process conditions and appropriate engineering advice.
