Dissolved Air Flotation Unit

Overview
A dissolved air flotation unit separates suitable suspended solids and dispersed material by attaching fine air bubbles to particles. The resulting float layer is collected from the water surface for further handling.
System arrangement
The concept includes a flotation vessel, pressurised recycle section and surface collection mechanism. Where needed, upstream coagulation and flocculation help prepare the particles for separation. Operating checks cover recycle conditions and solids removal.
Typical applications
Flotation may be considered for compatible food processing, production wash water and other wastewater streams containing separable solids or fats. The incoming mixture determines whether chemical conditioning is appropriate.
Planning and service
Bench testing is useful for confirming chemical demand and separation behaviour. The design review should also address float sludge handling, equipment cleaning and the relationship between flotation and subsequent treatment stages.
